Anxiety, Depression, and Burnout Treatment in Brea, CA

For the racing thoughts, the tight chest, and the tired that sleep doesn't fix. We name what's going on, then build back your steadiness, step by step.

The short answer

Anxiety treatment at Peaceful Presence starts with an unrushed psychiatric evaluation of your symptoms, sleep, stress, and health. Then we build a plan together that can include medication management, therapy-informed strategies, and attention to sleep and metabolic health. I see adults and adolescents in person in Brea and by secure video across California.

  • An unrushed evaluation, not a 15-minute visit
  • Anxiety, depression, and burnout often travel together
  • Medication is one tool, chosen with you
  • In person in Brea or by video across California

When worry stops being useful

Some worry is normal and even helpful. Anxiety becomes a problem when it is hard to switch off, when it shows up in your body as a racing heart, tight muscles, or an upset stomach, or when it starts to shape what you avoid.

Anxiety often comes with low mood, irritability, poor sleep, and exhaustion. Sometimes it is burnout from carrying too much for too long. Sometimes it is depression wearing a different face. A good evaluation sorts out what is what, so the plan fits you.

Who this care can help

You don't need to have the right words for it. These are some common starting points.

Constant worry or panic

Thoughts that won't shut off, especially at night, or sudden waves of panic that feel physical and frightening.

Low mood that won't lift

Losing interest in things you used to enjoy, feeling flat or heavy, or getting through the day on autopilot.

Burnout

Running on empty at work or at home, being short with the people you care about, and finding that rest doesn't seem to fix it.

Treatment that hasn't worked so far

If you've tried medications that caused side effects or didn't help, we can look at the whole picture again, and GeneSight testing may be one tool we use.

How I approach anxiety and depression

I look at the whole system: mood, sleep, focus, energy, stress, and physical health together. Treating one symptom while ignoring the rest rarely holds.

If medication makes sense, we choose it together, and I explain what to expect in the first weeks. We meet regularly to adjust. You'll see me, Charles, at every visit.

If you are in crisis, call or text 988, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.

Questions

Questions, answered.

What does anxiety treatment with a psychiatric nurse practitioner involve?

It starts with a full evaluation of your symptoms, history, sleep, and health. Then we agree on a plan, which can include medication, practical strategies, and a referral for therapy when it would help. Follow-up visits let us adjust the plan as you go. You work with the same provider at every visit.

Do I need medication for anxiety?

Not always. Medication helps many people, but it is one option among several. We talk through the benefits, the side effects, and the alternatives, and you decide. Sleep, routines, therapy, and stress changes are part of the plan either way.

How long does it take for anxiety or depression medication to work?

It depends on the medication. Many common antidepressants used for anxiety and depression take several weeks to show their full effect, and some side effects come earlier than the benefits. I explain what to expect before you start, and we check in during the first weeks so you are not guessing alone.

Is burnout the same as depression?

Not exactly. Burnout comes from long-term stress, often at work, and it can overlap with depression and anxiety. The two can feel alike, and one can lead to the other. An evaluation helps sort out what you are dealing with so the plan fits.

Can I get anxiety treatment by video?

Yes. I see patients by secure video anywhere in California, and in person at the Brea office. Many people start by video and come in person when it suits them.
