Peaceful Presence
FAQ

Questions, answered.

The things people usually ask before a first visit. If yours isn’t here, just call. That’s what the free call is for.

Getting started
How do I get started?
With a free 15-minute call. No pressure, no commitment. Just a conversation about what’s going on and whether we’re a good fit. Book it here or call (714) 584-7707.
What happens at the first visit?
A thorough, unrushed evaluation of your history, symptoms, and goals, then a clear, collaborative plan. You’ll leave knowing what we’re doing and why.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. I see patients in person in Brea and by secure video anywhere in California, so care fits your schedule.
The care
How is this different from traditional psychiatry?
Longer, unrushed visits and a whole-person approach. We connect your mental health to sleep, focus, energy, and metabolism, instead of treating symptoms in isolation or rushing you out in 15 minutes.
What do you treat?
ADHD, anxiety, depression, burnout, sleep, and related concerns, plus integrative and metabolic support (GeneSight testing, functional labs, GLP-1 and peptides) when clinically appropriate. See the services page for the full picture.
What is GeneSight genetic testing?
GeneSight is a cheek-swab test that may provide helpful information about how your body processes certain medications. It does not choose the medication for us, but it can be one tool we use alongside your history, symptoms, side effects, and goals.
Will I see the same provider every time?
Yes. You’ll work with me, Charles, at every visit. No rotating providers, no starting over.
Can I reach you between appointments?
Yes. Questions don’t wait for your next visit. Call or email and our team typically responds within one to two business days. For anyone starting or adjusting a medication, that reassurance matters more than almost anything else.
Insurance & fees
Which insurance plans do you accept?

In-network with select insurance plans. Contact us to verify your benefits.

We work with PPO, HMO, EPO, POS, indemnity, ASO, and HCA plan types. Ask on the free call and we’ll help you verify coverage before your first visit.

Why do some clients pay out of pocket instead?
Insurance is a valuable resource, but it comes with trade-offs: a mental health diagnosis goes on your record, billing staff may review your information, and coverage rules can shape how often you’re seen. Some clients choose to pay out of pocket for more privacy, flexibility, and control. If you have a high deductible, the upfront cost is often similar either way. We can talk through what makes sense for you.
How do deductibles and reimbursement work?
Most plans require you to meet your deductible before reimbursement begins, so you may pay the full session fee at first and get a percentage back after. How much varies by plan. Before starting, it’s worth calling your insurer and asking three things: how much of my deductible is met, what percentage am I reimbursed after that, and is there a per-session maximum.
What's a superbill, and can someone handle the paperwork?
If you use out-of-network benefits, I provide a superbill after each session that you submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Many clients use Mentaya to make it painless. It checks your benefits in advance, estimates your reimbursement, and submits and tracks claims for you (for a small fee).
What if cost is a barrier?
Finances shouldn’t stand in the way of getting steadier. Sliding-scale fees are available for those who need them. Just bring it up on the free call. Payment is collected at the time of service, and per the No Surprises Act, a Good Faith Estimate is available on request within 3 business days.
